Stage set for CEPCA ‘Battle of Champions’

CEBU, Philippines — The year-ending tournament of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association billed as the “Battle of Champions” will take place today (Sunday, Disiembre 15) at the residence of longtime CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas at the Royale Cebu Estates in Barangay Casili, Consolacion.

Game time starts at 2 p.m. featuring the club’s monthly winners and some wildcards.

National Masters Arnolito Cadiz and Rogelio Enriquez Jr. and Arena International Master Venancio Loyola make up the list of top contenders in Class A.

Also in the mix for the coveted title are Antonio Cabibil, Olea Amado Jr., Reynaldo Flores, Rosendo Yamyamin, Samuel Tenio, Peterson Sia, Toledo-Xignex Trojans team administrator Felix Poloyapoy Jr., Michael Tinga, and Carlo Maraat, who just passed the September 2024 Bar examinations.

They will be joined by some wild card entries that includes former CEPCA prexy Jojo Muralla and ASEAN Age-Group gold medalist Apple Rubin.

In Class B, vying for top honors are Edwin Cablao, Richard Ouano, Stephen Rosales, Leo Cortez, Rafael Perez, Manuel Abucay, Mario Bustillo Sr., Gabriel Misterio, Serojano Silveno, Roberto Calapan, and Ruel Hortelano.

Maratas will see action as a wild card participant together with Vince de la Torre and Dave Menoria.

The champions in both Class A and Class B will take home P5,000, while the second and third placers will pocket P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
