UV Lancers now 4-0

CEBU, Philippines — The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers easily dismantled the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs, 84-53, to keep their unbeaten record intact in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 24 basketball tournament on Tuesday, October 22, at the Cebu Coliseum.

Zylle Cabellon finished with 13 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal while Brian Fichter Jr. added 10 points, two rebounds and three steals as the Lancers earned a share of the college division lead with the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters on identical 4-0 records.

Reigning MVP Kent Ivo Salarda scored only six points but was a big factor on the defensive end with 14 rebounds for the Lancers, who were on fire from the get go and went ahead by as much as 32 points, 81-49, late in the game.

Earl Laniton had a breakout performance of 21 points, six rebounds, one assist and five steals, while Keaton Clyde Taburnal netted 14 points, six rebounds, and two steals but their efforts went for naught as the Mustangs fell to 1-3.

In high school play,  Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Baby Wildcats unleashed a decisive second-half assault to thrash the CRMC Baby Mustangs, 72-53.

Randel Mendaros produced a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds while Kieff Russell Suarez chipped in with 10 markers and four steals for the Baby Wildcats, who climbed to sixth place in the juniors standings with a 4-2 win-loss card.

 After a 33-all standoff at halftime, the Baby Wildcats staged a sizzling 22-11 rally in the third period and then sustained their hot charge down the stretch to come up with a 19-point rout. 

Overall in the final half, the Baby Wildcats outgunned the Baby Mustangs, 39-20.

Brent Teshawn Cuyno scattered 15 points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals while Erick Estalani had 11 points, two rebounds and four steals but their all-around performance proved futile as the Baby Mustangs suffered their fifth defeat in six games.
