Golden double for MFC Cebu in Aboitiz Cup
The Makati Football Club (MFC) Cebu edged past the Don Bosco FC-Team C, 1-0, to capture the Players 8 crown of the 24th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC)-Cebu field in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.
MFC Cebu’s most recent success came two weeks after it emerged as champion in the Players 6 division.
Zayne Ernest Acuña fired the game-winning goal for MFC Cebu at the 12th minute.
Interestingly, it was also Acuña’s early goal that sent MFC Cebu to the final. He found the back of the net at the 16th to lift his side to a hairline victory over Sugbu Calidad FC in their semifinal match.
In the battle for third place, Real Galaxy FC prevailed over Sugbu Calidad FC via a 2-1 thriller.
Andrew Chik of Sugbu Calidad drilled in a goal with just six minutes gone by in the game, but Benje Triton Japson powered Real Galaxy FC to a bronze-medal finish with back-to-back goals at the 12th and 18th.
