CRMC Baby Mustangs all set for their debut in CESAFI basketball

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Baby Mustangs of Bogo City are primed and ready for their highly anticipated debut in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 24 set to kick off on September 21 at the Cebu Coliseum.

CRMC Athletic Director Marc Malazarte said they decided to form a high school team for the upcoming CESAFI cage wars for continuity of their basketball program.

“It would also give us the chance to really mold players from high school then to college. Para sad di nami maglisod og pangita players for college since two years from now most of our players from college will graduate,” said Mazalarte, who is also the team manager of Mustangs.

Under the guidance of head coach Serg Alburo, a former varsity of the now defunct Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Baby Cobras, the Baby Mustangs are composed mostly of cagers from the Fourth District of Cebu where they are based backed up by potentials from Liloan, Cebu City, and Bacolod City.

Malazarte said they are tyring to jell as a team slowly but steadily.

They may be greenhorns in Cebu’s premiere inter-school athletic league but the Mustangs promised to be a fighting force each time they step on the playing court.

“We have been practicing as a whole team only last June. It might not be as early of a preparation as the other teams but I could say we are 80% ready for our CESAFI debut,” said Malazarte.

“As a newcomer in the league, ang amoa ra gyud mapasalig is that we will always come prepared in every game. Our team might not be as big as the players of other schools but we will play by our strengths,” Malazarte ended.
