CEBU, Philippines — Host Cebu City Niños pulled away further in the leaderboard with a total of 153 medals (as of 6 p.m.) during the penultimate day of action in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet 2024 on Wednesday, May 8.

Cebu City’s medal haul includes 59 golds laced with 45 silvers and 49 bronzes underscoring its complete dominance of the regional games.

Mary Sofiel Nicart and Lucky Shagelroy Jhane Abrio minted five golds each for the Niños in gymnastics.

Rhaenbow Abarquez, Georgina Shanelle Villaruel, Jillian Marie Arcilla, and Jasmine Jean Borces also carted away gilts for Cebu City in gymnastics, John Godofredo Apayan in wrestling, Briana Pahayahay, Tristan John Castro, Mike Gabrielle De la Serna, Em-Ji Mata, Gian Marco Young, Henia Ethana Dian Go, Ryzza Garner Pacaldo, and Eve Jeszy Franco Conejos in swimming, Kimi Aiyana Brodeth in lawn tennis, and Andrey Roa Lybron Lamo, Zandrie Autentico, and Joffer Bolofer in 3x3 basketball.

Meanwhile, Dumaguete City held firmly its second-place position with 32 golds, 38 silvers, and 30 bronzes.

Bohol Province and Tagbilaran City made a big leap to third and fourth spots with 24-29-29 and 23-29-10 gold-silver-bronze tally, respectively, dropping erstwhile front-runner Lapu-Lapu City down to fifth with a 19-13-9 haul.

Since surging to the top of standings last Monday with 17 golds, Lapu-Lapu could only managed a pair of gilts in the past three days of action.

Rounding up the Top 10 list are Mandaue City (18-21-25), Cebu Province (15-16-33), Bayawan City (13-9-8), Negros Oriental (1217-15), and Danao City (8-8-22).

Running 11th to 17th are Toledo City (4-1-5), Bogo City (3-0-4), Carcar City (2-3-2), City of Naga (2-2-2), Tanjay City (2-1-1), Canlaon City (2-0-2), Bais City (1-3-3) and Siquijor (1-1-2).

Out of the 20 competing divisions across the region, only two are still searching for that elusive gold - Talisay City and Guihulngan City. Emmanuel Villaruel/CVIRAA logo from DepEd-Cebu City Division
