Collapsed road already fixed

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The collapsed portion of the road along Legaspi Street has already been restored and may now be used by any type of vehicles, once the Cebu City Government decides to reopen it to the public, Engr. Ron Benolirao of Dakay Construction assured.

Yesterday morning, Sto. Nino Barangay Captain Lulu Ramirez, together with Benolirao and representatives of the Dakay Construction, conducted an ocular inspection on the newly-restored and reinforced road that collapsed last Wednesday.

Officials of the Dakay Construction have assured Ramirez that the road is already safe for use for both motorists and pedestrians.

Dakay Construction did the repair works as part of their commitment being the contractor of the ongoing new Patria de Cebu building structures.

When the road collapsed following the successive heavy rains that saturated the clayish soil, Dakay Construction readily promised to restore it in three days and made good its promise.

Benolirao said they were using an early strength concrete for it. They also applied a polymer chemical on top to “protect it from seepage of water,” Benolirao said.

He added that they will be submitting to the Office of the Building Official its plan on how they stabilized the road, as well as the other areas surrounding their project site.

Now, it is up to the city government as to when they will have it re-opened, Benolirao said.

Ramirez, for her part, is also hopeful that they will be able to use the road, even just a portion of it already today.

Vice Mayor Raymond Garcia immediately commended the Dakay Construction for delivering the goods, as promised.

“Just want to commend Dakay Construction headed by Engr. Ricky Dakay for fixing the road as promised and without a single centavo spent by the Cebu City Government. You make our work in government so much easier. Daghang Salamat,” said Garcia, who was the acting mayor at the time of the incident. (CEBU NEWS)
