Yaw-Yan celebrates 51st founding anniversary today
CEBU, Philippines — It’s that time of the year again as Yaw-yan Ardigma Martial Arts Ferderation, Inc. will celebrate its 51st Yaw-Yan founding anniversary with a simple get-together among its old and new members today (Saturday, August 19), at the Yaw-Yan headquarters located at the 4th Floor of Coast Pacific Downtown Center across UC-main along Sanciangko Street in Cebu City.
The special occasion, which coincides with the birthday of the late Supreme Grandmaster Napoleon “Nap” A. Fernandez, the revered originator and “Father of Yaw-Yan”, will start with a holy mass 3pm.
“Through this gathering, we hope to strengthen the bond of Yaw-Yan brotherhood and sisterhood,” said Caniga.
Also known as “Sayaw ng Kamatayan (Dance of Death)”, Yaw-Yan is a Filipino style of kickboxing introduced to the public GM Nap Fernandez in 1972 in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Yaw-Yan also includes elements of striking, takedowns, grappling, arnis, stick and knife fighting. Over the years, it has dominated the kickboxing scene in the country and has proven to be very effective against other stand-up fighting arts. — EBV
