Consolacion Headers rule SMS sepak takraw tourney
CEBU, Philippines — The Consolacion Headers reigned supreme in the Sisters of Mary School 18 Under Sepak Takraw Tournament organized by Christopher Caballa recently at the SMS-Boystown Complex in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla.
Bannered by Keith Ortiz, Joshua Pepito, Jhiane Jay Tuñacao, Carlos Kyle Sugarol, and John Michael Abing, the Headers advanced to the championship round after sweeping past host SMS, 21-16, 21-17.
In the finals, the Headers shrugged off an early debacle to hold off the tough Cebu City side in three sets.
Consolacion fell to Cebu City in the opening session, 21-16, but bounced back with aplomb in the second frame, 21-19, to forge a rubber match.
In the decider, the Headers proved to be the hungrier and more determined squad on the way to finish off Cebu City via a 21-15 decision and clinch the coveted title.
The Headers were under the guidance of coaches Jamesle Pitogo, Bryan Roque, and Edsel Lastimoso. — EBV
