Mandaue rules Chooks’ maiden sepak takraw tourney

CEBU, Philippines —  Team Mandaue fended off the Guindaruhan squad of Minglanilla in three sets to dominate the 1st

Chooks-to-Go Sepak Takraw Cebu Invitational Tournament at the Sisters of Mary School (SMS)-Boystown in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla over the weekend.

Manned by Rogelio Agoylo, Gilbert Bering, Karl Michael Ygona, Archie Clint Abella, and Jiezel Sebastian Ardina, Mandaue stumbled in the opening set, 18-21, against Guindaruhan composed of Ramel Sagolili, Ariel Miñoza, Guillermo Lapingcao, Charleton Belande, and Ralph Julius Ortouste.

The Mandauehanons bounced back with aplomb though to tame Guindaruhan in the second frame, 21-18, and forge a rubbermatch.

In the decider, Mandaue gave all the best they’ve got to finish off Guindaruhan, 21-16.

In the battle for third place, Compostela stunned Cebu City in three sets, 16-21, 21-17, 21-17.

The highly successful tournament was made possible behind the support of Chooks-to-Go President Ronald Mascariñas, the godfather of Philippine 3x3 basketball who finds another sporting platform to instill a deep sense of national pride and love of country to the youth. — EBV
