Naki Warriors check 3-game skid in PCAP
CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors snapped out of their three-game losing spell in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Open Conference on Saturday night via chess.com platform.
Lapu-Lapu suffered its third straight loss at the hands of the San Juan Predators, 5-16.
But enough is enough for the Naki Warriors.
They bounced back with aplomb and vented their ire on the Pampanga Checkers via a lopsided 15.5-5.5 decision for their first win in PCAP’s third and season-ending tilt.
Bannered by Saudi-based Cebuano National Master Elwin RetAnal, Woman International Master Bernadette Galas, Anthony Makinano, Michael Joseph Pagaran, Linky Yap, Ariel Joseph Abellana, and Duane Borgonia, the Naki Warriors edged Pampanga in blitz, 5-5-1.5, before closing out their rivals in rapid play,10-4.
On the other hand, the Toledo City Trojans remained on a downward spiral with another back-to-back defeats.
The Trojans were tamed by the Manila Indios Bravos, 8-13, and then got smashed by the Pasig King Pirates, 5-16, for their fourth consecutive loss, their first in the country’s first ever pro chess league. — EBV
