Tiu rules Erwin Ababat Super Blitz 3
CEBU, Philippines — Manila’s Sherwin Tiu emerged as champion in the Erwin Ababat Memorial Super Blitz 3 spearheaded by the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA).
Tiu tallied the highest output of 12.0 points to rule the 15-round Swiss system competition bankrolled by US-based Cepcans Engr. Gilbert Ababat of Colton, California and Engr. Jojo Dondon of Allen, Texas.
Michael Joseph Pagaran of Cebu finished second with 11.5 points while Ted Ian Montoyo was at solo third with 11.0 points.
Francis Talaboc, National Masters Giovanni Mejia and NM Julius Sinangote of Manila, and Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo of Laguna ompleted the top seven finishers with 10.5 points each.
On the other hand, Antonio Cabibil and Rosendo Yamyamin were the top Cepcans A while Dr. Leo Lofranco and Norman Martin Olayvar were the top Cepcans B. Edelyn Vosotros took the honors as the best female player.
The other top winners of the weekly online tilt were Sheila Khan Sepanton and NM Rogelio Rodriguez, Jr. in the Stephen Rosales Birthday Blitz and Archt. Filemon Kapuno III in the Prexy Jerry Arena. — EBV
