Mandaue-CV sweeps group in MYBL-Cebu

CEBU, Philippines — Team Mandaue-CV swept its group in the classification round as it scored a dominating 112-25 win over SACS-A in Division 1 play of the Under 18 age group of the MVPSF Youth Basketball League-Cebu (MYBL-Cebu) presented by Smart Communications  at the Magis Eagles Arena over the weekend.

The CVIRAA-bound squad won its fifth straight win to secure the top spot in Group C. Joey Villamayor led the charge with 17 points and seven rebounds.Gene Sambrona added 18 points and 12 rebounds.

In other Division 1 games of the Under 18 age group, CITU upended Benthel Asia School of Technology, 60-49. Sol Dave Ivan Tirol led the Baby Wildcats with 17 pts and 4 steals. Meanwhile, SCSIT surprised USPF, 54-50, as Jude Michael Betonio had 16 points and eight boards. Ethan Bajunawa had 12 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and shot 86% from the field to lead PAREF Springdale to a 50-45  win over Developmental Pardo-A.

In Division 1 games of the Under 15 age group, CITU overcame Compre, 48-40, with James Flores leading the team with 17 points and eight rebounds. SHS-Ateneo Passerelle-B outlasted GAA, 63-49. Yared Espina had  11 points and nine boards. Benthel Asia trounced Compre, 102-77 as Raymond Benitez erupted for 31 points, 13 rebounds and 15 steals.

In Division 1 games of the Under 12 age group, Benthel Asia stunned SHS-Ateneo-A, 64-41. Josh Cagara dominated with 28 points, nine rebounds and six steals.SHS-Ateneo-B scraped past Graphics Point/Toledo, 59-48. Ben Ong had an all-around game of 16 points, ten rebounds, five assists and 6 steals.

In Division 2 games of the Under 18 age group, Cebu Elite won over SACS-B, 53-33. Batang Mandaragat trashed Developmental Pardo-B, 104-80 and Day-as, 101-67. In Division 2 Under 15 games, RYS won over GBCL-B, 57-38. J-Hoops/Canjulao defeated Springdale, 58-26. One on One-A cruised past Developmental Pardo-B,72-43. In the love Division 2 Under 12 game, St. Benedict topped Basak San Nicolas, 40-23.

The MYBL-Cebu, also backed by Cebu Landmasters Inc. and PAGCOR, is comprised some 115 teams playing in three age groups:  Under 18, 15 and 12. All age groups are split into two Divisions: 1 and 2.
