2019 PRISAA Central Visayas seniors take lead

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Defending champion Central Visayas took the lead in the seniors division going into the penultimate day of the 2019 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games yesterday at the University of Mindanao-Matina campus here.

CV’s seniors squad now has 51 gold, eight silver and four bronze medals. Bicol Region is at second with 18-3-10 gold-silver-bronze medals, while Western Visayas is currently at third with 16-39-16 medal tally.

April Joy Alampayan and Melody Perez had 1-2 finish in the 10,000m run, while University of San Carlos’ Joie Bahal snared the gold in the 3,000m walk with a time of eight minutes and 12 seconds. CV’s girl relay team dominated the 4x100m relay in 51.51, clocking.

Ronelyn Borres and Stephen Pekitpekit also contributed with one bronze medal each via the javelin throw and high jump.

Over at the pool, USC’s Razel Cabajar scored a double gold plus a silver, while UC’s Karen Indaya also delivered two gold medals.

The region’s girls squad harvested 12 golds after topping the 100-meter freestyle in 4:06.37, 200-meter medley relay in 2:22.75 and the 200-meter freestyle relay in 2:08.34 clocking.

Central Visayas ruled the tennis event after its men’s team led by Joseph Enriquez upended Bicol Region, 2-0, in the finals, while its women’s squad also won the overall championship.

Also, former World Champion Mikeala Calamba secured a double gold in poomsae.Calamba utilized her experience to get the gold in category A and the mixed pair event with Aldrein Abrio.

Abrio also got silver via the men’s category A while Scott Michael Hermosa came up with a bronze via class B.

CV boxers also ended their campaign with one gold, three silvers and one bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Western Visayas leads the youth division with 35-13-16 gold-silver-bronze medals followed by Central Visayas (15-24-5) and Davao Region (12-5-19) at second and third place, respectively.
