CEBU, Philippines — Over a hundred riders across the Visayas and Mindanao region will be seeing action in the MS Motosuit-backed 21st Calambua Motocross Cup this Sunday in Calambua, San Remigio north of Cebu.

MS Motosuit big boss Lou Ornopia said daredevils from as far as Dipolog, Ormoc, Sagay City, Dumaguete and Bohol will be coming over to challenge Cebu’s hometown bets in the adrenaline-pumping race that is among the highlights of Calambua’s annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Vicente Ferrer.

“We’ve reached this far, 21 years to be exact, because of my unbridled passion for motocross,” said Ornopia during yesterday’s SCOOP-Cebu forum  at the Cebu City Sports Center.

“And I’m proud to say that through the years, we’re able to nurture young talents until they become one of the top riders in the country including the likes of John Flores and BJ Pepito,” added the one-time ‘Sportsman of the Year’ awardee by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC).

Ornopia also takes pride that their event is something that the riders look forward to each year because of their highly technical racetrack that is patterned after of the international standard.

Meanwhile, the categories to be contested in the one-day tiff are the pro open, expert, peewee 50 cc and 65cc and mini 85cc, beginners, local enduro, open enduro, executive A, B and C, novice, and intermediate.

After Calambua, action shifts to the neighboring town of Medellin for the Mayor Joven Mondigo Motocross Invitational on April 28.

The twin events are presented by MS Motosuit in partnership with F&FO motor parts, Cebu Newstar, RMO motor parts, JCO motor parts, NF Enterprises, N Style, A Plus, CST tire, Maxxis tire, and Melvin Jeroy of SNR Motomaze.

It is also supported by congressman Benhur Salimbangon, provincial board member Sun Shimura, vice mayor Al Pestolante, vice mayor Erwin Agustin, Engr. Susan Ornopia, J/Supt. Felipe A. Montejo, Wenrec de la Peña, police Maj. Mariano de la Peña Jr., Juan Jubay clan, Diosdado Navarez, Ani and Leizel Navarez, and Evelyn Concillado. EBV
