Olmilla retains title, Arellano pulls stunner in Sogod 8080 Triathlon
CEBU, Philippines — Omega Tri Team’s Joland Olmilla successfully retained his overall title, while the little known Socorro Arellano was crowned as new female champion of the Sogod 8080 Triathlon the other day.
Olmilla finished the grueling race with the fastest time of three hours, 10 minutes and 16 seconds, enough to edge his closest pursuer John Philip Duenas who clocked in 3:13:29 for second place.
John Alcala wound up third with a time of 3:16:00.
In the distaff side, Arellano frolicked in the absence of defending titleholder Cianyl Gonzalez on the way to snare the crown in 4:13:53.
Casey Uy placed second in 4:27:16 followed by Marie Flor Justiniane with 4:27:27.
Duenas’ brother Chobie, on the other hand, took home a champion’s trophy via the 20-24 age group with a time of 3:25:11. Marie Obeso was unopposed in the distaff side.
The rest of the age-group winners were Trixie Tura (25-29), Nicson Tongco (30-34), Jan Sind and Shai Tagara (35-39), Mark Mulder and Lucille Ruiz (4044), Clement Covacho and Luisita Jadulco (45-49) and Joseph Lloyd Tio (50-above).
Rider Omega Pro composed of Albert Godinez, Dongkey Sanchez and Joland Olmilla’s brother Joseph ruled the 8080 relay.
Triathlon princess Karen Manayon of Omega Tri stole part of the show by grabbing the women’s overall crown in the 40-40 action. In the men's battle, Justice Sousa stunned Joseph Miller for the overall spot with a time of 1:37:44 as against Miller’s 1:41:27.
The top age-groupers were Sandy Erediano and Nyza Archival (19-under), John Benedict Godinez and Christine Villamor (20-29), Vincent Paolo Sybico and Robinette Uy (30-39), Noy Jopson and Rosalie Ardiente (40-49), and Brian Lim (50-above). (FREEMAN)
