Engbino, Mari top Kawasan ultra race

CEBU, Philippines — Veteran long-distance runner Desederio Engbino and Marivic Mari emerged as the fastest in their respective divisions of the first Kawasan Fallas 80K Ultra marathon the other day starting at the San Fernando Municipal Hall grounds and ending at the Kawasan Falls in Badian, Cebu.

Engbino of Spectrum Runners, finished the grueling race in eight hours, one minute and 25 seconds to top the men's class beating followed by teammate Edilberto Batiancila with a time of 8:01:30 as Paul Delposo wound up third in 9:30:00.

In the distaff side, Mari clinched the crown with the fastest time of 10 hours and 30 minutes. The policewoman outpaced her closes pursuer Mary Claire Maranga who settled for second in 10:37:00, while Irene Oliveros landed at third with 11:33:00, clocking.

Race director Edward Colina of Hardcore Events said that out of the 58 participants all 13 female runners successfully crossed the finish line while 42 male runners out of 45 finished the grueling 50 -mile race challenge. (FREEMAN)
