De la Cruz, Drago top Independence Day scrabblefest

CEBU, Philippines — Learjet de la Cruz bagged the open division title of the Independence Day Scrabble Open 2018 at the Cebu City Sports Institute.

De la Cruz, who studies at Cebu City Science High School, edged Bea Datiles, 433-388, in the final round to take home the crown.

John Speed Eslao of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) came out second, while Jan Dale Catalonia of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) placed third.

Junmar Amistoso of the University of Cebu (UC) wound up fourth plus the highest single word award.

PAREF-School’s Uriel Drago, on the other hand, lorded it over the elementary division after outsmarting USJ-R’s Lord Garnett Talisic. (FREEMAN)
