First Spartan Race in Cebu set June 16

CEBU, Philippines — Spartan Race Philippines will be staging its first Spartan Race in Cebu on June 16 at the Foressa Trails, a modern adventure park in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban.

The Foressa Trails, which is part of the AboitizLand’s Foressa Mountain Town Development, will be the playground of the Spartan Cebu leg dubbed as “Foressa Cebu Sprint 2018”. It's the first race outside Luzon and the third Spartan race in the South East Asian Series.

“We are excited to announce that we are bringing to Cebu, the world’s largest obstacle race and endurance brand - Spartan Race,” said Eduardo “Dudes” Aboitiz, Commercial Business Unit Head of AboitizLand in a press conference at Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. “This event will definitely showcase the natural beauty of Foressa and Cebu to Spartan racers coming from over the world.”

Spartan Race Philippines CEO and European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) President  Guenter Taus, for his part, said they have found the perfect venue in Foressa for the  landmark race.

“Foressa offers a really nice place and it's definitely one of the best sights that we have seen as a venue to do the race,” said Taus.

The Cebu Sprint will feature three categories - the elite, age-group and open category. It covers more than 5-kilometer distance with at least 20 obstacles.

The elite category is for those who aims to qualify for the Asian and World Championships, the age-group is for those who want to compete against racers of their same age, while the open is for the first timers and teams.

There will also be a Spartan Kids Race where kids aged four to 13 years old can join. A team-based event for a group of three of the same gender is also offered and the most challenging 4-hour Hurricane Heat is also open.

“It’s going to be a spectacular race. It’s going to be perfect,” said Spartan Race race director Mike Reyes.

The organizers are expecting about 3,000 participants. A lot of foreign spartan racers from different countries are also expected to join in the Cebu Sprint being the third leg of the South East Asian Series.
