EVERY POUND COUNTS - Allan Choachoy - The Freeman

Good news for all runners! A few days ago, the organizers of the Cebu Marathon decided to once again use the South Road Properties as one of their main routes for the 2018 edition of the one of the most prestigious races in the country.

I think it is much safer compared to the previous edition where the runners passed through three cities starting from Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.

The big difference for next year is that the Cebu Executive Runners Club has officially taken over the race again. For the past years, the Cebu Marathon was losing its identity. CERC has also brought back its ‘Lechon’ feeding station aside from the water stations that is strategically located at every 2-kilometer of the race route.

I have signed up again for the 21K half marathon and I am excited to start my training this November. The Cebu City government and the Cebu Provincial government have pledged their full support for the race.

Since the start of the registration last July, there are already close to 3,000 runners who have enlisted for the 42K and 21K action, while the registration for the 10K and 5K is now open. Organizers are expecting around 5,000 participants, which are a thousand more compared to the previous edition. The registration fee for the 42K is pegged at P1,800, P1,400 for the 21K, P950 for the 10K and P750 for the 5K. To register, one may visit www.race.ph or at the New Balance at the Ayala Center Cebu for the on-site registration.

Aside from the Cebu Marathon, other race to look forward is the Off-road TADuahtlon which is happening on November 12 in Bato, Toledo. This race features a 5km run, 25km off-road and 3km run.

Organized by the very active veterinarian Willie Estepa, who is always visible in almost all local races from trail run, cross country and ultramarathon. To date, over 100 racers have already signed up for the event and the organizers are expecting another 100 more to sign up. Registration will end this Sunday.

You can still register through PALAWAN, LBC and ML Pera Padala. Details as follows Name: WILFREDO ESTEPA, Contact: (0933) 329 5308, then send the copy of your transaction slip and your valid identification card together with the details to www.facebook.com/taduathlon. Online registrants are required to fill-up the registration form and medical waiver on the race day before the race. Race will start at exactly 6 a.m. Participants my claim their race kits during the bike check-in on November 12 at the Ranch Resort from 3:30 a.m. to 5:20 a.m.

For those who are into Triathlon, you need not worry as San Remigio 8080 Triathlon is slated on November 18. Registration will close on October 30.  8080 triathlon is organized by the Cornerstone events group headed by Steve Maniquis.

They have always exceeded our expectation every race like putting beautiful muses on the finish line, excellent after party and adding of timing chips to make results efficient. This is a hybrid distance race that includes a 1.8km swim, 65km bike and 14km run. 4040 distance (900m swim, 32.5km bike and 7km run) and relay are other categories to be contested.

You can still register at Bikecology in Banilad Town Center, Cebu City Auto Focus in Banawa, Metro Hub Multisports, Infinitea, Three Of Me and Toto's Bike Shop in Mandaue.

See you all in the starting line and let’s support our local races.
