Rotarians to stage triathlon race for a cause this June
CEBU, Philippines - A triathlon event for less fortunate kids with medical needs is set to take place with the staging of the 1st Rotary Corporate Triathlon this June in Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City.
Current club president Bernard Vonn Sia, a triathlete himself, said in a press conference at Casino Español the other day that all funds raised from the event will be used for the surgery of 12 kids initially identified.
The race, to be handled by Cornerstone 8080 Events Inc., will feature a 1.6-kilometer swim, 50K bike and a 10K run.
The categories to be contested are the elite/open, age-group, relay and the corporate challenge.
In the Corporate Challenge, it’s going to be a team event with six members, but with only four team members’ time to count—particularly 3 male and one female. No elites are allowed though.
Cornerstone’s Steffan Maniquis said they are flexible about the corporate team's registration rate of P20,000 for six members. They can either opt to race under the Corporate Challenge category or race individually as well.
Quinito Moras, also of Cornerstone, further elaborated that companies can make this event as part of their corporate social responsibility.
“They will not just be racing for themselves but they will be racing for these kids,” Moras said.
Registration fees for the other categories are as follows—P4,000 for the individual participant and P8,000 for the relay teams.
Interested participants can register at the Digital Walker in Ayala and SM, the Missing Link at Robinsons Galleria Cebu, the Senor Kimchi at Axis Vibo, the Bikecology at the BTC, the Cyclelogic at Parkmall, and YKK Bike Shop.
