Battle in Tupi: Double WBC Asia championship Duno, Gaballo in make or break fights
GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — Filipino prospects Romero Duno and Reymart Gaballo of the Sanman Boxing Club are in a make or break fights when they face separate Thai foes in an exciting double championship show billed as "Battle in Tupi" today at the municipal gymnasium of Tupi in South Cotabato.
The power-hitting Duno (10-1, 9KOs) will slug it out with Paiboon Lorkam for the vacant WBC Asia super featherweight title, while the undefeated Gaballo (14-0, 12KOs) will battle Manot Comput for the WBC Asia super bantamweight belt in the co-main event of the slambang show that is among the highlights of Tupi's Kasadyaan Festival.
"I am going for a knockout win. I can't say what round but that is my goal," said Duno after the official weigh-in yesterdat at Jams restobar in dowtown Gensan.
Like Duno, Gaballo also knows the importance of his bout against Comput, with Sanman Promotions Jim Claude 'JC' Mananquil assuring to send them to the United States for further training and exposure once they emerged victorious.
'Magic' Mike Plania and John Vincent ' Mulawin" Moralde, the reigning WBF International featherweight champion, are in the same predicament when they take on Jhonrey de Asis and Hagibis Quinones, respectively, in a surefire explosive undercards.
"Gaballo, Plania and Moralde need to win their fights to boost their morale as they are already leaving for Miami,Florida after the fight," said Mananquil.
In Miami, the three will be reunited with their stablemate Harmonito de la Torre, who is now training in there with veteran Cuban strategist Moro Hernandez.
With their future at stake, all four Sanman fighters are hard-pressed to make an impression in what promises to be an action-packed spectacle here in Socsksargen area. (FREEMAN)
