Sinulog Fun Run kicks off

CEBU, Philippines – Hundreds of footracers are expected to hit the road early this morning as the Sinulog Fun Run gets underway at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Mary Joy Tabal, the country's reigning marathon queen for three consecutive years now, is not expecting another personal best in the five-kilometer run, yet she is a shoo-in to defend her crown.

Though not after of glory, Tabal makes sure she will be able to join in the event that started her running career towards becoming a long distance running start.

Close to P60,000 in cash prize is at stake for the top 10 finishers in the men's and women's division, with the champions taking home P10,000 each. The second placer  will pocket P5,000, while the third to fifth will receive P3,000, P2,000 and P1,500, respectively.

The sixth to 10th will get a consolation prize of P1,000.

The organizing Sinulog Foundation will also award P3,000 each for the male and female runners with the best in costume. There will be a separate award for the fastest running club. (FREEMAN)
