Cebuanos stamp class in dancesport

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebuanos reigned supreme in dancesport, with Team Cebu City and co-host Cebu Province taking nine of a dozen golds at stake in the 2015 Philippine National Youth Games-Batang Pinoy Championships at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

TCC carted away five golds, three silvers and two bronzes, while Cebu Province snared four golds and one silver and bronze medal apiece.

The fast-rising Ouie Selene Rendon and John Lloyd Leyson led TCC's charge with two golds via the juvenile A standard and latin category.

Rendon and Leyson actually topped the standard contest after edging teammates Nino Salve and Jannah Marie Pugoy.

Salve and Pugoy though bounced back by winning the juvenile C latin gold.

TCC also had  a 1-2 finish in the junior A standard through Gylle Nino Deluvio and Julia Paz Branzuela and Lloyd Simon Asuque and Raylyn Jhea Romeo.

Jake Emmanuel Corro and Anndreah Kiem Capangpangan produced TCC's fifth gold via the junior A latin.

Cebu Province's golds, on the other hand, all came from the modern standard battle behind the efforts of Nigel John Angel and Shadelle Nina Hernandez in juvenile D, Hezekiah Sobrevega and Frances Mae Valmoria in juvenile C, Francis Isaia Diluvio and Kim Jocson in the junior D, and Crispin Sato and Yeddah Marie Castanares in the junior c division.

Antipolo ended its bid with a gold and two silvers, Davao City with 1-1-5, Tacurong with a gold, Koronadal with three silvers and two bronzes, Quezon with a silver and a bronze, Angeles with a silver, and General Santos City with a bronze.

In athletics event at the Cebu City Sports Center, Cebuana Mary Joy Loberanis finally got what she missed the other day after winning the 3,000-meter run with the time of 10 minutes and 57.09 seconds. Escalante City's Marialyn Pantaliano finished second in 11:57.22, while Laguna's Leonlyn Raterna got the bronze with an 11:24.42 clocking.

Juvan Jane Baculot added a silver via the triple jump event.

On the other hand, TCC's Samantha Limos, Batang Pinoy's fastest female runner, established the best time of 25.86 seconds in the 200m qualifying time, making her the top bet for gold in today's finals.

In Danao City, TCC's Aaliyah Ricci Mataragnon won gold and a silver in cycling. Mataragnon completed the girls 14-15 criterium covering 25 kilometers and two laps in 37 minutes and 23.37 clocking. She got silver in the indivual time trial with the time of 18:30:38.

Catherine Yu added bronze medal to her collection in criterium and silver in ITT in the girls 11-12 age group despite racing for the first time.

In Mandaue City, Rapha Ellerred Villanueva grabbed silver in wrestling through the 32 kgs. division. (FREEMAN)
