Stallions go 8-0, Blue Devils win at last in E-League
CEBU, Philippines- The Lexmark Stallions stretched their unbeaten streak to eight after downing the Teleperformance All-Stars, 80-70, while the Convergys Blue Devils upended the Sykes Pioneers, 76-69, for their first win in the 11th CSCC E-League men's basketball tournament last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Vill Duero had 17 points laced with six rebounds and five assists, while Franco Angelo Cipriano added 14 points on top of eight rebounds and three steals for Lexmark, which banked on a sizzling offensive in the final half to turn back Teleformance and firm up its grip of the Elite Classic lead with a clean 8-0 slate.
Sylvester Millevo added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists for Lexmark. They trailed by six at halftime, 34-40, but countered with a 21-13 run in the third before closing the match with a 25-17 bang to turn the tables on Teleperformance.
Ryan Veloso finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Marcos Genteli Jungoy III added 12 points, four rebounds and as many assists but to no avail as Teleperformance crashed to 6-2 in a tie with the Accenture Sharks, who notched their sixth win in eight games at the expense of the Eperformax Reds, 62-60.
Archie Brian Batua scattered 29 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Accenture, which dealt ePerformax its sixth loss against only two wins.
On the other hand, Oscar Villamor, Jr. exploded with 29 points, seven rebounds and three steal as the Blue Devils finally snapped out of their seven-game jinx. Villamor got huge support from Lucky Luke Vidal with 12 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Frederick Montelibano had 22 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort for Sykes.
In the lone match under the Evo League, the Author Solutions, Inc. Hardbacks eked out a 68-65 decision over The Resuls Companies Spartans to improve their win-loss record to 5-4 in a tie with their victims. (FREEMAN)
