Why diet always works?

Alan G. Choachuy - The Freeman

Sometime we resort to extreme measures just to achieve in looking good and losing weight.

That's why fancy diet is available left and right. These diet programs are not cheap. Some pay more than P50,000 to P60,000! And yes, it really works you lose 5-8 lbs. in a span of only one to two weeks, while some even lose a staggering 20 to 30 lbs. in just a month. But the real question once you go back to regular programming is how can you keep the weight off or maintain the weight.

Remember if you eat next to nothing, you will surely lose lots of weight and sometimes including your hair. This is because it lacks the necessary nutrients for your body. Some diet programs have very low calorie intake, which prohibits you from exercising, working out or performing strenuous activities.

Now if you want to lose weight for free, here is the big secret. Losing weight isn't about depriving you from delicious foods or eating your favorite meal. Enjoy your food. In order to lose weight, you have to be mindful on what you eat and in order to be stronger, fitter and healthier, you need to exercise. It is a balancing act between 70 to 80 percent nutrition and 20 to 30 percent exercise.

Choose your food wisely, be mindful of what you eat. Avoid deep fried, condiments and sauces. Steamed, grilled or pan fried is a healthier way of cooking. No to colored drinks, soda, juices, beers, cocktails and etc, go for natural juice fresh fruits. Cook your own food instead going to the fast food. Eat lots of vegetables. Don’t skip meals! Most people skip breakfast and have a feast during lunch time. Then skip their afternoon snack for buffet dinner.

Eat to lose weight. Learn to eat quality foods, increase frequency in your meal, and learn to eat every 2 hours or 5 to 6 meals per day. Eat in moderation, meaning lesser quantity. Not because it is unlimited rice or drinks you have to finish the whole ‘bandihado’ or pitcher of drinks.

And if you exercise regularly, it does not mean that you can eat anything. Common notion is that you exercise so that you can eat antyhing. Even if you workout 8 hours a day and you don’t control or be mindful in what you eat, you will still gain weight.

The common problem in trying to losing weight is plateau. It is when your weight loss stops. Even if you kill yourself in the gym or do countless of mileage in running, your weight gets stuck. Sometimes this is because you are doing too much, too soon, eating less than what your body requires or you simply use the same workout routine over and over for the past 3 months.

But everything is easier said than done, you need tons of discipline, motivation, determination and hardwork. That is why diet programs works and is successful. But only for a short period of time, It is only a band-aid solution and a suicide mission because most of us are lazy and want an easy or quick solution.                If you want a long term effect that is free of charge, then just eat healthy, be mindful in what you eat, exercise and move your body.
