Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Cebuano archers hit their marks well in this year's Silliman University Founder's Day Indoor Archery Tournament in Dumaguete City the other day.

Long-time national team member Rosendo "Dondon" Sombrio and the fast-rising Vincent Villa led the Cebuanos' charge with three golds and one silver combined.

Sombrio, the man behind the Cebu City Sports Commission's grassroots program in archery, upstaged the multi-titled Jennifer Chan to bag gold in the compound open's qualifying round.

A shoulder injury, however, affected Sombrio's performance in the Olympic round where he eventually settled for silver medal.

In the recurve cadet boys, Cebu Archery Club's Sebastian Alex Blanco, Rogelio Miguel Tremedal and Kaine Lorenzo Casquejo scored a clean sweep, while Maria Ana Isabelle Villamor won silver medal in the distaff side.

On the other hand, Rogelio Miguel Tremedal, Sebastian Blanco, Khalil Justine Abella and Kaine Lorenzo Casquejo took the top four spots in the cadet boys.

The two other Abellas in Khalil Jusper and Khalil Alyx both came out second in the recurve cub of their respective divisions, while Maria Ferimi Gleam Bajado ug Maria Ana Isabelle Villamor made it to the top three in the cadet girls.

In the final results of the Olympic round, Gabriel Flores ruled the cub boys class, Khalil Jusper Abella ended up with a bronze, while Khalin Alyx Abella snared gold in the cub girls.

Team Cebu Archery Club-Purple Cowz composed of Sebastian Blanco, Rogelio Tremedal and Kaine Casquejo also won gold in the men's team competition, while the SUDAC Criss ruled the women's division. (FREEMAN)
