Paref-Springdale reaches Aboitiz Cup q’finals
CEBU, Philippines – Paref-Springdale booters crushed Alcoy FC, 8-1, to advance in the quarterfinals of the boys under-18 division of Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Paref-Springdale who is under Group A posted a perfect 3-0 win-loss record.
Meanwhile, Paref-Springdale's archrival and defending under-18 champion Don Bosco Technology Center defeated Leylam FC with a convincing 4-0 victory.
DBTC logged two goals each in the first and second half for its second straight win under Group C.
However, Leylam still has a chance to get into the quarterfinal round as the top two squads of each group that will proceed to the next round. Abellana National School-Pomeroy also outsmarted Bright Academy, 2-1.
In the under-13, DBTC's Team A did not break a sweat against Alcoy FC while Consolacion posted a 1-0 win against Bright Academy.
Alcoy FC is likely to be banned in the said tournament as they have been reportedly fielding over-aged players while a separate sanction will be meted to the coach involved.
The Cebu Football Association, however, is yet to make an official statement over the said matter according to the chairman on the tournaments committee, Glenn Quisido.
Over at Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu football field, Consolacion FC earned two wins in the under-7 class over DBTC-B, 3-0 and MAD FC, 2-1.MAD also got back-to-back victories after defeating DBTC-D, 9-0 and DBTC-B, 4-0.
In the girls under-15 bracket, Tabor Hills beat Bright Academy, 3-0, while there under-18 team ended with a 3-all draw with SAIS. St.Theresa's College triumphed over SRFC, 2-0.
At the San Roque Parish's football field, DB Savio annihilated SAIS, 6-0, in the under-11 class. Paref-Springdale also outpointed DBTC-A 2-1.
DBTC-B had a scoreless draw with San Roque FC as well as the games between DBTC-C and MAD FC and Magone and BMALV. (FREEMAN)
