Khan: Superfight will not happen

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Former welterweight champion Amir Khan personally feels that the megabuck showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather initially set for May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will not happen at all.

The British star said like everyone else, he too would love to see the fight happen, but he felt that too much politics emanating from both camps have stalled talks of what could easily be the richest fight ever in boxing history.

“Honestly that fight will not happen, in my opinion. I spoke to Manny Pacquiao and, obviously, we speak to Mayweather and his team. I can’t really see that fight happening, there is too much politics with that fight. There’s different promotions teams and different management teams - I don’t think they will let that fight happen,” said Khan in a report by Edward Chaykovsky of boxingscene.com.

“If it does happen,  I’m a big boxing fan and I would love to see it. I want either one of those guys, if they are fighting each other then I can’t argue because I would love to see that right like everyone else. It’s a fight I’ve always waited for but it’s taken so long that I can’t see it happening,” added Khan in the same internet report.

If negotiations of the Pacquiao-Mayweather duel fizzle out again, Khan is one of the top contenders to face next either of the two ring supestars.

If he is to choose who among the two great warriors he would like to face off with first, Khan said he would pick Mayweather because that fight is much easier to make as they share the same manager in Al Haymon. (FREEMAN)
