Seno into boys 18 semis of Cebuana Lhuillier Tennis

CEBU, Philippines – Training in the United States paid off for Jan Godfrey Seno after he easily earns a semifinals ticket in the boys 18 in the penultimate leg of the Cebuana Lhuillier Age-group Tennis Championships yesterday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Brgy.Pardo, this city.

Seno posted a lopsided 10-2 win over Manuel Francis Navalez. He will meet Clyde Bienes in the semifinal round this morning. Bienes also advanced to semis with a 10-2 thrashing of Francis Quino. Mike Evander Bienes also marched into semis against Christopher Encarnacion.

On the other hand, former ‘pulot boy’ Francisco Hidalgo scored a huge upset against a top seeded player to enter the quarterfinals of the boys 14 class. Hidalgo upended No.2 ranked Kenneth Banico with a hard-earned 10-8 victory.

It was the longest match so far lasting an hour with Hidalgo winning the game after his several high bounces against Banico.

Unlike Hidalgo who had a taxing entry to the quarterfinals, the like of Armando Magallanes, Marc Suson and Nathaniel Carl Alipe had an easy wins in the second round.

Magallanes and Suson both posted a 10-1 win against Paul Hellary Coderos and Jayford Canono respectively while Alipe earned a 10-2 victory against Christian Bahenting.

Banico though still had something else to look forward to after winning his boys 16 assignment, 10-1 over Magallanes.

Other boys 16 matches saw Manuel Francis Navales dispatching Laurence Stefan Abarquez, 10-1; Marc Pradel outsmarted Khylle Pollo, 10-6 as Anthony Lu outpointed Joni Butcon, 10-9.

Christopher Encarnacion who had a double entry, also won the boys 16-under event at the expense of Suson. (FREEMAN)
