Bernaldez keeps unbeaten record
CEBU, Philippines - ALA Boxing Gym mainstay Mark ‘Machete’ Bernaldez (15-0, 10KOs) outlasted Christian ‘Bicolano Lastikman’ Abila (12-15, 4KOs) via unanimous decision to keep his unbeaten record intact in the main event of ALA Promotions-Cobra Energy Drink ‘Tunay na Lakas Boxing’ the other night at the Dumaguete City Hall quadrangle in Dumaguete City.
Coming from a six-knockout winning streak, the 22-year-old found himself in a tight battle against Abila, who gamely engaged him in an all-out brawl in the early rounds.
But Bernaldez, a rising featherweight contender, wisely used his speed and power to outgun the Valenzuela City boxer.
In the supporting bout, another ALA Gym warrior Brian ‘Buhawi’ Lobitania (9-0, 7KOs) stopped Koronadal City’s Renante Suacasa (6-13, 1KO) in the fourth round.
In the other results, Jonas Sultan destroyed Andrew Palas in the seventh round, Crispin Parba kayoed Elmer Colve, Jess Waminal triumphed over Alvin Sibugan via third round TKO, Jesson Horteza decisioned James Paul Talaman, Junder Gregorio dominated Jamjam Ungon, while Michael Estrella beat Noel Rosa by unanimous decision.
