Consolacion fiesta cagefest set to kick off Sept. 28

CEBU, Philippines - Everything is already in place for the Mayor Teresa P. Alegado Cup 2014 Fiesta Basketball League this September 28 in Consolacion, Cebu. A total of 21 barangays will see action in the month-long tilt that is among the highlights of Consolacion's annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso.

The contending squads in the inter-barangay category A are Cansaga, Poblacion Oriental, Poblacion Occidental, Jugan, Pulpugan, Tayud, Lamac, Danlag, Pitogo, Nangka, Tugbungan, Casili, and Cabangahan. They will be divided into two brackets and will be a double round robin format in the elimination. The top will proceed into the crossover semifinals, with the winners slugging it out for the championship in a best-of-three series.

Among those who will see action the the inter-barangay category B are Lanipga, Panas, Polog, Sacsac, Garing, Tilhaong, Panoypoy, and Tolo-tolo.  They will also play in a double round robin format during the classification stage.

The other feature is the SK division wherein the participants led by defending champion Danlag will be grouped in four brackets. The top two will advance into the quarterfinal round. It will be followed by the crossover semis and eventually the best-of-three title match.

Games will be played at the basketball gyms of Cansaga, Jugan and Tayud.

The event is highly supported by Mayor Teresa P. Alegado, Vice Mayor Rey Damole and the rest of the Sanggunian Bayan members. Councilor Nilo Ferraren serves as the sports committee chairman assisted by Boy Tibon and Liga ng ma Barangay President Marilou P. Casul.

The tournament will be supervised by sports commssioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former varsity of the Far Eastern University during his collegiate days. (FREEMAN)
