UC sweeps CESAFI table tennis
CEBU, Philippines- The University of Cebu clinched all four championship titles available in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. table tennis event at the UC Custom’s campus yesterday.
In the tertiary level, UC men’s squad survived a scare against University of San Carlos, 3-1.
Dannel Jay Tormis saved UC through the reverse singles.
Tormis opened UC’s title defense in the men’s division with a 3-1 win against the gutsy Geofrey Apas, 3-1, before his teammate Val Stephen Jaca fell victim to Jude Labastida, 2-3.
Lemuel Agbon and Francis Bendebel took a clear 3-0 win against Melvin Arena and Jonathan Orbeta as
Tormis avenge Jaca’s lost to Labastida by pulling away a convincing 3-0 victory for their title retention.
In the distaff side, UC also managed to pull away with a 3-0 victory against USC. Athena Comaingking defeated Issa Darlo while Kaye Pepito dumped Angeli San Juan both with a 3-0 win in the first two singles.
Lezlie Agbon and Jeramae Saromines sealed UC’s triumph with a 3-1 mark against USC’s Gracelle Suico.
UC’s secondary division bets also defended their titles with the UC girls outsmarting the University of San Jose-Recoletos bets and its boy’s team beating USC.
For their part, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu managed to grabbed all two bronze medals in the secondary level. (FREEMAN)
