Shell Advance Youth Cup Visayas leg revs off Sunday
CEBU, Philippines - The opening leg of the Visayas championship series of The Racing Line-organized 2014 Shell Advance Youth Cup revs off this Sunday at the Gaisano Bowlingplex grounds in Brgy. Banilad, Cebu City.
The underbone and scooter circuit event will take place in four key cities of Visayas and Mindanao namely Cebu, Davao, Cagayan, and Dumaguete. It serves as a qualifying race for the 2014 Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup, which is among the sidelights of the 2014 Moto GP Malaysian Grand Prix set this October in Sepang, Malaysia.
The championship series will have two separate championship rounds in Visayas and Mindanao. Both champions in each separate round will earn a ticket to the Malaysia tilt and compete against the top racers in Asia for the right to race in the Moto 3 division of Moto GP in 2015.
For the maiden battle in Cebu, the race will be participated in by the top racers in Visayas aged 13 to 21 years old. They will showcase their riding skills in nine categories: 100-125 beginners, beginners AT 130, novice AT 160, novice 130, intermediate expert 130, intermediate AT 160, expert 130, expert AT open and expert Open.
All category champions will then race using a one-make motorcycle, a Suzuki Raider J 115 FI. The top four finishers will qualify for the Visayas finals slated on August 24 at the Dumaguete Business Park. They will go up against the best riders of Dumaguete, with the winners enjoying an all-expense paid trip to Malaysia courtesy of Shell Advance.
The Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup will become a feeder series to the world of international motorcycle racing and will help showcase Asian riding talent. The championship is scheduled to consist of six rounds, with the first taking place at the Qatar round of the 2015 MotoGP season. It is a pan-Asia motorcycle talent search program, which is organized by Dorna Sports SrL. Dorna is the exclusive holder of all commercial and TV rights of Moto GP.
The Racing Line in partnership with Shell Advance has made the international hopes of our racers come true with this series. It has indeed open the door for the local racers that they have indeed a chance not only to see their respective motorsports heroes on TV but also race with them on the race track. This is a huge opportunity to open up new and younger talents as well as help homegrown heroes develop their skills and hopefully compete against the top Asian riders.
The Racing Line 2014 Shell Advance Youth Cup is presented by Shell Advance in association with Suzuki Philippines. Trophy and cash prizes are at stake for the top performers in each category.
Registration fee is pegged at P850 inclusive of one liter Shell Advance Motor Oil and one jersey. (FREEMAN)
