Weiyu Gao leads Alta Vista’s March golfest winners

CEBU, Philippines - Twelve-year-old Weiyu Gao leads the cast of winners in the March Monthly Medal of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, which was played last Saturday at the par-72 AVGCC course in Pardo, Cebu City.

Gao was even-par after the front nine shooting 35 strokes but slowed down a little on the back with a four-over-par 41, but it was still enough to earn him the lowest gross crown for the premiere class A category.

The lowest net honors went to Roy Damole with a net score of 69 strokes off a gross 80 while runner-up honors went to Charlie Gaite with 71 strokes after he edged Jun Dayot in the countback to break the tie.

The lowest gross honors for class B went to Henry Chu, who fired a tournament-best one-over-par 73 strokes.  Chu had nines of 37 and 36.

The lowest net honors for class B went to Dr. Peter Aznar with 67 strokes off a gross 83 while Alvin Suarez took the runner-up honors with his 69 strokes.

Oscar Sanchez fired 91 strokes to take the lowest gross honors for class C while the lowest net plum went to new club member Zaldy Casinillo with 65 strokes and the runner-up honors went to Alex Chiongbian with 72.

Chandran Rama topped the seniors’ (55 to 69 years old) division by firing 77 strokes on nines of 39 and 38 to bag the lowest gross honors.  The lowest net trophy went to Mar Selma with 61 strokes off a gross score of 83 while Jun Mendoza finished as runner-up with a net score of 66.

The super seniors (70 years old and above) was ruled by Rolly Santos, who took the lowest gross honors with 86 strokes.  The lowest net plum went to Billy Tan with 65 strokes off a gross score of 94.

In the ladies division, 11-year-old Weifang Gao, bagged the lowest gross honors with 85 strokes while the lowest net award went to Marina Kaufmann with 73 strokes off a gross score of 91.

The lowest gross honors for the guest division went to Vic Arnuco with 81 strokes and the lowest net trophy was won by Charles Ong with 74 off a gross score of 91.

Special awards went to Doli Cabahug and Loloy Sabuga.  Cabahug was nearest to the pin on hole No. 6 leaving six feet and an inch for a birdie putt while Sabuga’s drive landed on the center line on hole No. 11. (PR from www.fullpointcebu.com) (FREEMAN)
