Annual DCPI tourney Cebu bets off to rousing start
CEBU, Philippines - Dancesport-Team Cebu City kicked off its campaign in the three-leg Dancesport Council of the Philippines, Inc. (DCPI) National Championships on a high note, raking in 15 golds, eight silvers and four bronzes during the 1st Quarter Ranking and Competition last Sunday at the Philsports Arena along Meralco Avenue in Pasig City.
The Cebuano athletes snared a double victory in the pro action, thanks to the efforts of Ronnie Vergara and Charlea Lagaras in the pro A latin division. Vergara went on to win another gold in the pro A standard with new partner Mae Paracuelles.
It was actually a golden treble for Vergara as he also topped the pro-am C along with Virginia Tan.
However, it was Andrew Ysla and Cristine Camacho who contributed the most number of golds for DTCC with four through the junior A and C plus the 3 and 5-dance latin and modern standard division.
Hezekiah Sobrevega and Rydel Rowela Pat handed two golds through the juvenile latin and standard class.
The other gold medallists for DTCC were Bjorn Torreon and Eleanor Hayco in the SE 2C teacher-student C standard, Zjiane Troy and Zjiana Tracy Villarta in the youth A standard, Ronald Ruiz and Jocelyn Versteeg in the senior C standard, Jeffrey Ruben Benarao and Mary Mae Canillo in the SE 1C -teacher-student Latin, Shardie Abellana and Marjorie Pasaje in the grade D Latin, and Jojit Cabuenas and Akiko Ozaeta in the 1-Sr. A Latin.
DTCC also got eight silvers from the tandem of Hezekiah Sobrevega and Rydel Rowela Pat, John Paul Mocorro and Therese Andre Quilaton, Romeo Cialbo and Mary Desiree Seraga, Shardie Abellana and Marjorie Pasaje, Wilbert Aunzo and Eleanor Hayco, Jeffrey Ruben Benarao and Mary Mae Canillo, Ronald Ruiz and Jocelyn Versteeg, and Bjorn Torreon and Jam Flores.
Those who delivered bronze medals were Ziane Troy and Zjiana Tracy Villarta, John Paul Mocorro and Therese Andre Quilaton, Marlon Aliño and Sharmine Buen Maloloy-on, and Charlie Camacho and Marisse Reyes. (FREEMAN)
