2nd Lou Ornopia basketball tourney to kick off on Saturday in Calambua
CEBU, Philippines - A bigger cash prize is at stake for the top performers of the 2nd Brgy. Capt. Lou Ornopia Basketball Tournament set to go full blast this Saturday at the Calambua open court in the bustling northern Cebu town of San Remigio.
From P30,000 last year, Ornopia has increased the prize money to P50,000 this time, with the champion getting the biggest chunk of P20,000.
Special awards will be given away to the fairest muse and best in uniform during the kick-off salvo, while the outstanding individual achievers such as the regular season MVP and Mythical Five will earn cash incentives.
Four teams beefed up by imports will see action in the event fully supported by the barangay council of Calambua under the dynamic leadership of Brgy. Capt. Lou Ornopia.
"We are staging this tournament again because we want the people of Calambua and its neighboring barangays in San Remigio to experience a highly entertaining hardcourt action. Seldom they see competitive games with star players joining in and this is their opportunity," said Ornopia, who is best known in the sports world as the godfather of Cebu motocross.
Co-presented by MS Motosuit, the month-long tilt is also supported by F & FO Motor Parts, JCO Motor Parts, Prospeed, Speed-up, Motomaze, Keiz BJ Motors, Bradder Moto Access, RMO Motor Parts and N Style. It is being held in association with Congressman Benhur Salimbangon, Provincial Board Members Sun Shimura and Joven Mondigo, Vice Mayor Al Pestolante, SB Member Rizmar de la Peña, Ramon Montealto, and Diosdado Navarez.
Aside from basketball, Ornopia also braces for his comeback as motocross organizer, initially crafting a six-leg series that will commence on April 12 also in Calambua. (FREEMAN)
