Dalaguete to host triathlon event

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano triathletes will be tested once again with the staging of the first leg of Tri Team Triathlon series on February 8 in  southern Cebu town of Dalaguete.

Dalaguete hosted the second leg last year and even with such short notice in this year's edition, Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Cesante approved the hosting of the kickoff leg. This is the third time that Dalaguete will host a triathlon competition.

The triathlon series is a four-leg event organized by Sugbutriathlon with the cooperation of local government of Dalaguete.

“We planned to stage the first leg in San Remigio same as last year, but because of the calamity, we decided to moved it to Dalaguete,” said coach Benjoe Gimenez, one of the organizers in a press conference yesterday at the Fuente Pension House.

"We are hosting this event as another attraction for our upcoming 2014 fiesta. This triathlon race will be a part of our sports tourism campaign," said Joseph Randy Cisneros, who is representing the local government of Dalaguete.

Aside from the team championships, other categories to be contested are the individual and kiddie triathlon classes.

Early registration is now going on. Registration fee is pegged at P2,000 for the team championship and individual race, while participants for the kiddie category will pay P1,500. Those who will register past January 27 will have an additional P500. Deadline for registration is on February 3.

Entry forms are available at the Rudy Project in Ayala Center Cebu. For online registration, one may visit sugbutriathlon.com. (FREEMAN)
