Mayweather: It’s a lie Arum dispels rumors too, says Pacquiao to fight next Bradley or Provodnikov

CEBU, Philippines - Boxing's undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has dispelled rumors of a September date with Manny Pacquiao, saying that the stories about his potential superbout with the Filipino ring star currently swirling around the sports world are all untrue.

Referencing a homemade video posted on YouTube boxing channel 78Sports TV, Latino Post reported the other day that Mayweather and Pacquiao have finally agreed to fight each other in September and that it's already a done deal.

But Mayweather quickly doused cold water on the hot yet dubious news, firmly dismissing all rurmors linking him to a showdown with Pacquiao this year.

"All the stories you hear about Pacquiao is a lie," Mayweather told Ben Thompson of fighthype.com.

"It's a lie. It's not true. If it didn't come from Leonard's mouth, my mouth, or Al's mouth, it's not true," he added referring to Al Haymon, his advisor, and Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions.

Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank. Inc. squashed off the rumor too.

"You're going to get reports like this (Pacquiao-Mayweather fight) from time to time, but unless it comes from us or Manny, it has absolutely no substance," said Arum in a separate report by Brad Cooney of 8countnews.com.

Arum does not want to delve on the reasons why the fight that could easily go down as the richest in the history of boxing has not happened until now. He remains hopeful though that it will take place someday at the right place and at the right time.

"Well I don't want to debate the whole history. There's so many ins and outs. I hope that this fight can happen, but nothing has moved ahead about this fight," said Arum.

Pacquiao and Mayweather are set for ring return in April and May, respectively. Pacquiao will take on either

Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov, while Mayweather has British Amir Khan in his radar. (FREEMAN)
