CEBU, Philippines - Multi-titled Cebuano tankers Val Andre Chiu and Michael Ichiro Kong could look forward to a merry Christmas after they earned slots to the Philippine team that will see action in the 37th Southeast Asian Age-Group Swimming Championships in Brunei Darrusalam in June next year.

Both Chiu and Kong qualified for the international event after making waves during the 4th Speedo G-League Long Course Swimming Championships at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila over the weekend.

Chiu of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu won gold in the 50mr freestyle, silver in the 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 200m breastroke.

Kong, a varsity at the University of Cebu (UC), settled for only silver in the 200m butterfly event, but his time was enough for him to book a ticket for the SEAASC tilt.

Karen Mae Indaya, the lone female entry of the Cebu Blue Marlins in the G-League tilt, placed fourth in four events she joined in. Unfortunately,  she missed the qualifying time for the Brunei meet.— (FREEMAN)
