UC starts strong in Aboitiz Cup

CEBU, Philippines - The University of Cebu (UC) opened its title campaign with a convincing 5-2 demolition against Ktec Trading in the premier men’s open division of the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

It was a see-saw battle in the first half that resulted in a 2-all tie, but Ktec Trading booters ran out of gas as they weren’t able to match the stamina and speed of Nigerian players from UC that outscored them 3-0 in the final half.

With the win, UC now got the early lead in bracket B, while Ktec Trading fall to 0-1 record.

In the inter-company action, ERCO pulled off a 3-0 whitewash against Kalayaan Engineering giving them the solo lead with a 2-0 card.

San Miguel trailed ERCO in the standing after beating Arkiteks United, 1-0, in their first game of the tournament, while Leylam FC and T-United match resulted into a draw.

In the 38-above division, Queen City United escaped with a 2-1 triumph against ERCO, while KN Ferraren beat JEH United, 2-1.

In the under-23 bracket, University of San Carlos (USC) silenced Continental FC, 2-0, while Leylam posted a 1-0 victory against Subangdaku.

In the inter-company division, Accenture scored a 6-1 rout of Eperformax.  Innodata and Xlibris match ended in a scoreless draw.

Lexmark and Convergys also figured in a 1-all draw as Stream pulled off a 3-0 annihilation against NCR. 

USC grabbed a win in the women’s class, dumping Convergys, 2-0, while Accenture logged their first win in the expense of  NCR.  (FREEMAN)
