Ramirez extends streak in Parkmall charity race

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Meiriz Ramirez added feathers on her cap after ruling the 21K women’s open division of the Parkmall's "The Green Mile: Running the distance for kids with cancer" yesterday morning at the mall’s Piazza.

After dominating the UCCP-Bradford’s Centennial Run last Saturday, Ramirez reigned supreme on her second straight half marathon race in one weekend at a time of 1:42.51.

Mary Jane Beboso got the second spot in 1:51.16 as veteran Cebuana runner Christy Sevilleno-Tutor came out third in 1:54.34 clocking.

In the men's 21K action, Raphael Piscos outsmarted a bunch of season runners to win the top spot. He crossed the finish line with the fastest time of one hour, 15 minutes and 11 seconds. Bonifacio Monjas settled for second in 1:17.24, while Noel Tillor ended his bid at third in 1:19.05.

Thousands of runners participated in the fund-raising activity for the benefit of The Freeman Foundation. Part of its proceeds will also be donated for the restoration of the belfry of the iconic Basilica del Sto.Niño that was completely damaged by the powerful earthquake that hit the region a week ago.

The Freeman Foundation has been of service to the Cebuanos for the past 25 years already through its various medical missions, back-to-school and feeding programs in remote barangays of the province. It currently holds a relief campaign for the quake victims in Bohol.

Lovely Fe (58:10) and Jhean Andrin (59:19) had a 1-2 finish in the women’s 12K as Sarah Lee Cuizon (1:07.03) came out third.  Ronnie Andrin (43:46) topped the men’s 12K. Michael Largo (434:49) got the second spot as Robert Daang (43:55) slipped to third.

Cherry Andrin (25:42) and John Daryl Manos (20:04) topped their respective divisions in the 6K open, while Jolan Omilla (10:17) and Irish Delechos (12:58) ruled the 3K open.

Kevin Cortes with his dog Yuko (21:15) and Rosalee Bidao with her dog Chloe (22:59) also went home happy after grabbing the 1K ‘run with your dog’ category.  (FREEMAN)
