Charity football for quake victims on Nov. 9

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A charity dfootball for earthquake victims is set on November 9 tentatively at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

The one-day tilt, initiated by former Little Azhals head coach Oliver “Bingbing” Colina, features categories:under-9, 11, 13, 15 and 17.

Colina chose the date a day ahead of the Aboitiz Football Cup opening with hopes that many would join this fund-raising activity for two reasons - to help the earthquake victims especially in Bohol and as part of the teams' final tune-up for the Aboitiz action.

Colina said they will just utilize their own players to officiate the event unless the Cebu Football Association will offer to shoulder the expenses for the referees' fees aside from waiving the sanction fee for the tournament.

Referees and the rest of the football community in Cebu are welcome to help out in the officiating and in running the event.

Aside from the registration fees, the organizers will also set up a booth where anyone can donate clothings, food, money and other things that could be of big use to the earthquake victims.

“Let us also show what the football community can do to help others. Let's be one for this cause,” said Colina.— (FREEMAN)
