Amchels scores record win in Don Bosco hoopla

The Freeman

MANILA, Philippines - Amchels recorded what is by far the most lopsided victory in the history of the Bosconian Basketball Club after they obliterated the hapless Batch '97, 111-52, in BBC's Don Bosco Cup last Sunday at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.

Chrissar Llegunas charted 20 points for Amchels, who pounded Batch '97 right after the opening buzzer on the way to a sizzling 28-6 start. They closed the first half with a commanding 51-20 lead, then made a 28-13 blitz in the third to further rip the game apart, 79-33.

Amchels launched their final wave of attack, 32-18, to wrap up the mind-boggling 59-point demolition, an all-time high. Alvin Arpon was the lone bright spot for Batch '97 with 18 points.

On the other hand, Davies Paints showed great team effort as it rolled to its third straight win at the expense of DBUFC, 58-42.

Kim-Kim Rebosura nailed 10 markers for Davies Paints, which was in complete command after cruising to a 30-18 lead at the break.

DBUFC never recovered from there despite the 20-point effort by top gunner Earl Mondero.

In the other game of a feature triple-header, Batch '93 escaped past Plas, 67-62. They trailed by a hairline at the bend, 37-38, but turned the tables on Plas using a steady offensive in the final half.

A total of 10 teams are taking part in the tournament organized by the Bosconian Basketball Club  under the leadership of its president Engr. Jonathan Reyes. The rest of the BBC officers are Archt. Duane Dale Anino (vice president), Atty. Kenneth Kern Sesante (secretary), Omar Nacorda (treasurer), and Ian Castrodes (auditor).

The participating squads will play in a single round robin format, with the top four teams per bracket advancing into the quarterfinals with twice-to-beat advantage over the lower-ranked qualifiers.

The winners will then proceed into the crossover semis wherein the survivors will slug it out for the championship in a best-of-three series. The losers will fight for third place in a winner-take-all affair.— EBV (FREEMAN)
