Penalosa, Jopson win Tabuelan triathlon
CEBU, Philippines - Franklin Peñalosa makes his debut in the Tabuelan 111 triathlon with flying colors by emerging the men's elite champion as Amale Jopson came out the new women's open champion at Maravilla Beach yesterday.
Penalosa completed the 2-kilometer swim, 88-km bike and 21-km run in four hours, 37 minutes and 31 seconds. John Philip Duenas who was sixth last year came out second this time with 4:41:31, while veteran Noy Jopson settled at third spot with 4:46:28.
For his part, Amale dominated the women's open as she crossed the finish line in 5:44:34 clocking.
Lorhiz Echavez who encountered some troubles and distractions ended her quest at second place with 6:01:33, while Senator Pia Cayetano came in third with 6:07:14.
Rochelle Tan and men's elite division champion Arland Macasieb though confirmed their participation, decided not to push through with their title bid for some reasons.
In the men's age-groups, Jeremie Dansereau-Lemieux topped the the men's 18-24, while Kristiane Lim ruled the 25-28 as Jose Merdino Lim dominated the 30-34 division.
Javy Olives won the 35-39 class, while last year's winner in the 35-39 division Eugene Sanchez claimed 40-44 class as Adolfo Minoza and Alejandro Nitollama won the 45-49 and 50-54 men’s class respectively.
Louie Villacin managed to keep his title in the women’s half-distance race with 2:57:51, while Larry Bril won the men's side in 2:34:04.
The Pantry won the full distance's relay action with 5:05:36 while the barangay Tabunok won the all-Tabuelan local relay race. (FREEMAN)
