Cebu Landmasters completes semis cast in Partner’s Cup
CEBU, Philippines - The fourth-ranked Cebu Landmasters-USC Warriors needed an extra five-minute period before knocking out the gritty Lion Tiger-USPF Panthers, 93-88, to advance into the semifinal round of the Enervon CESAFI Partner's Cup 2013 basketball tournament last Saturday night at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Cebu Landmasters will face next the undefeated elimination round topnotcher Prime Asia Lending-UV Lancers at the start of the semifinal stage tomorrow.
The Cebu Landmasters was in control all throughout the regulation period, finishing strong at the end of the third period where they protected a 64-50 lead.
The Cebu Landmasters maintained a shaky 79-76 lead on a split charities by Stephen Que, but Joseph Sedurifa buried a booming trey that knotted the count at 79-all with only five seconds left to play, thus, sending the game into overtime.
Sedurifa, who exploded with a career-high 37 points, put Lion Tiger on top by two, 81-79, at the start of the extension, but could not stay long inside the court as he suffered leg cramps. He was rested for a while but when he returned, he was lo longer the dreaded shooter that he used to be.
Que, Ian Ortega and Nico Magat then rose the occasion to deliver the goods for the Cebu Landmasters.
Que finished with 18 points, while Charles Pepito and Magat scattered 18 and 17 points, respectively.
Aside from Sedurifa, the other bright spots for Lion Tiger were Art Camello and Lawrence Escanilla with 33 points combined, albeit for a losing cause.
