CECABA semifinals starts today

CEBU, Philippines - The semifinal stage of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup gets underway with an exciting double-header today at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Elimination round topnotcher New Millennium Hardware '95 will slug it out with the First Family Appliance Circle '96 in the opening match at 1:30 pm, while Dewfoam '88 will lock up horns with Dimsum Frito 2003 in the match game at 3 pm.

Dimsum Frito 2003 booked the last semis ticket after booting out Las Vegas KTV-M16 Disco '94 in lopsided fashion, 71-48. It was Class 2003's first ever semifinal appearance in the 14-year history of the league.

Joey Catipay topscored for Dimsum Frito with 21 points followed by Philip Judd Veneracion with 13 markers.

Dimsum Frito was in full control from the onset, taking an early 18-11 lead which they parlayed into a 12-point advantage at halftime, 34-22. After fighting on even terms in the third period, Class 2003 went on to close the match with a 23-13 bang to seal the 23-point blowout.

Flashy guard Anwar Satina scattered 17 points, but couldn't lift Class '94 to a crucial win this time. Stanley Gaw had 13 points and Bronson Peña scored 10 in a losing cause.
