Class 2007 win at last in CECABA cagefest

CEBU, Philippines - Wild Rice 2007 finally tasted the sweetness of victory after it shackled PTT 2005, 58-51, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Friday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Raymark Ryan Ong tallied 20 points and two rebounds, while Juan Carlo Espada added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals as Class 2007 snapped out of its 12-game slump.

Class 2007 was in full command from the start, closing the first half with a seven-point lead, 29-22. They mellowed down offensively in the third period, but closed the match with a 20-13 bang to fluster Class 2005.

Philip John Lua was the lone double digit scorer with 11 points and two rebounds for Class 2005, which suffered its 10th loss in 12 games.

In the other game, Anthony Chua tossed in 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter as Las Vegas KTV-M16 Disco '94 rallied to a 64-50 triumph over 3R Audio '98 to improve its win-loss record to 9-5.

Wellington Yu chipped in 15 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, Stanley Gaw and Bronson Peña contributed 14 markers each for Class '94, which was never threatened after taking a 36-28 advantage at the bend.

Elvis Evangelista had 13 points and four rebounds for Class '98, which dropped to 8-6. (FREEMAN)
