SHS-Ateneo wins ‘Clash of Eagles’to barge into NBTC national finals
ORMOC CITY , Philippines — The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles spared no mercy in demolishing the Eagles of New Ormoc National High School, 102-49, to advance into the national finals of the Seaoil National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Elite League the other night here at the jampacked Ormoc Superdome.
After a low-scoring start, 12-5, the Magis Eagles quickly turned themselves into ruthless predators on the hardcourt behind the hot hands of Rendell Senining and Arc Gabrielle Araw-araw. They enjoyed a double-digit lead for the first time at 23-13 cushion, which they padded into a commanding 43-20 lead at halftime.
The Magis Eagles weren't done from there as they dropped another devastating 34-12 bomb in the third canto to mount a mind-boggling 45-point edge, 77-32. At that juncture, the once boisterous Ormoc fans toned down and started emptying their seats as the outcome was already beyond doubt in favor of the Cebuano visitors.
It was the second stringers and the rookies led by Zacky Huang who finished the demolition job for the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, inc. (CESAFI) juniors champion.
Huang, who was unstoppable at the paint like Hynric Dawn Ochea, topscored for the Magis Eagles with 22 points. Ochea chipped in 18 markers, while Senining and Araw-araw connived for 19 markers as they took another huge step in defending the national crown they won last year in Manila.
