Danish rider steals show in Kopiko supercross
CEBU, Philippines - Denmark's Nikolaj Larsen raised the bar on local racing with his spectacular, yet dangerous moves enroute to winning the international division in the kick-off leg of the 2013 Kopiko Astig 3-in-1 Supercross National Series at the South Road Properties the other day.
The 22-year-old Larsen was humble enough in victory, saying that he has all praise and admiration to the skills of the Pinoy daredevils.
“The Filipino riders have the potentials. They only need more exposure, more training," said Larsen. "I hope to come back for the next race of this series and see what’s going to happen next.â€
It was a masterful twinkill for Larsen as he also topped the pro open category, beating the country's top rider Glenn Aguilar, who returned to racing after suffering from a rib injury in November last year.
Adlawan had another third place finish after edging out Sebastian Korgaard in the final heat.
Jorgensen made his mark in the pro life over Rhowell Matias Mangosong as Adlawan settled for another third place showing. Aguilar ended fourth, while Jubeline Abellar, another Kopiko-sponsored rider, wound up fifth.
Aguilar though still has a reason to smile as his son McLean lorded it over in the mini class and beginners open production.
Jacob Orbe also had a double celebration after dominating the novice production and intermediate class.
The event, spearheaded by Man and Machine Racing, was spiced up by the presence of motocross legends Jovie Saulog and Pepo Rubi.
Saulog was just more satisfied and relieved to see his daughter Janelle top the lone women’s open division over the likes of Pia Gabriel, Wunncy Grace Lungay and R.K. Cuesta.
Rubi, for his part, raced under the veterans A where he placed second to Ariel Lacnit.
Jay Lacnit, the big boss of SEL-J Racing, swept the veterans B and C titles, while Ayen Ledesma got the open enduro crown.
The rest of the winners were Malbert Rama in the underbone division, BJ Pepito in the peewee 65cc, Jaypee Glenn Gaid in the peewee 50. (FREEMAN)
