Pason, 8 others share lead in Colonnade Youth chessfest

CEBU, Philippines - The young but promising Cebuano pawnpusher Alan Pason and eight others share the temporary lead after rounds of action in the 2012 Colonnade Mall Youth Open Chess Tournament.

Pason, who etched his name in stone for winning the first ever Chess Festival, subdued Jhoronnie Gayl Bontes to post a perfect 2.0 points, so far, together with Yves Christian Fiel, Diego Abraham Claro, Daniel Lorenzo Minoza, Jazzelle Villarin, Dione Patrick Minoza, Airene Robillos, Godfrey Villamor, and John Francis Balbona.

Fiel prevailed over Jemery Pepito, Claro beat Dwight Genesis Bentulan, Minoza tamed Neil Gilig, while Villarin outclassed James Andrew Balbona.

The other Minoza, Dione Patrick, upended Shiela Mae Diloy, Robillos defeated Nicole Mae Mangubat, Villamor bested Jethro Ysmael Claro, while John Francis Balbona outsmarted Duane Borgonia.

Others in the title run with 1.5 points each are Sherwin Amad, Shaira Mae Monsalud, James Virneer Paraon, Adrian Basilgo, and Jessa Marie Balbona.(FREEMAN)
